Three Laurelhurst Gardens
Located within a few short blocks of each other in Laurelhurst and completed in 2005-2006, these three small and fairly level front gardens by Seattle landscape architect Brooks Kolb have two major programmatic elements in common; otherwise, they could not be more different. What all three have in common is that they reclaim the front yard for private and intimate family living and they each incorporate a small water feature. At each site, the back yard was less suitable for family use, but for different reasons. Click on the following links for more details.

Current Work
In 2007 Brooks finished a large back garden in Hunts Point and two smaller back gardens in the Roanoke neighborhood of Seattle, among several built projects. In Seattle’s Meadowbrook neighborhood, Brooks completed the back garden of a project for which he had previously designed the front landscape. This garden features a Japanese-style dry rock stream bed with the sounds of water courteously supplied by the nearby (but invisible) Thornton Creek. Brooks also finished work on a garden for a brick Tudor-style house near the Seattle Yacht Club. This urban garden boasts a large deck spanning over an existing bunker-style sloping driveway. Currently, Brooks is at work on many gardens including one in the “Fletcher’s Village” neighborhood, near North Beach. In the coming months, check back for images of these new gardens as the plants begin to take root and grow!
